Okay, so I’ve been seeing this Prada Re-Edition 2000 bag everywhere lately, right? On TikTok, Instagram, you name it. Even celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid are carrying it around. It’s got that classic, simple look, and I thought, “I want one!” But, you know, the price tag on the original one is a bit much. So, I thought, “Why not try making one myself?”
I started by looking up everything I could find about this bag. Turns out, it’s a remake of a nylon shoulder bag Prada first made way back in 1984. This Re-Edition 2000 is a smaller version of that. The original was more of a handheld bag. I learned that this remake keeps the iconic Prada Saffiano leather for the zipper pull and adds a cool removable tag that says “Prada Re-Edition 2000”.
I found a bunch of nylon fabric scraps I had lying around from old projects and a bit of leather that looked pretty similar to the Prada Saffiano. I also managed to find a zipper that matched the color of the nylon. The tricky part was getting the measurements right. I wanted to make sure my homemade bag was as close to the real deal as possible. So, I spent a good amount of time looking at pictures and videos online, trying to get a good sense of the bag’s size and shape.
Cutting and sewing were the next big steps. I carefully cut out the nylon and leather pieces, following a basic pattern I sketched out. Now, I’m no expert tailor, but I’ve done some sewing projects before. Still, sewing the curved edges of the bag was a bit of a challenge. I had to go slow and really concentrate to make sure the seams were neat and tidy. Also, the front plaque was too large, I tried to make it looks like “R”.
- Nylon fabric (leftover from an old project)
- Saffiano-like leather (also a leftover piece)
- Zipper (color-matched to the nylon)
- Sewing machine (an old one I borrowed from my neighbor)
- Thread (matching the nylon and leather)
- Scissors, measuring tape, and a lot of pins
Things I used:
After a few evenings of work, and a couple of do-overs, I finally had my own handmade version of the Prada Re-Edition 2000 bag! It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few little imperfections here and there, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s got that simple, classic vibe of the original, and it’s the perfect size for carrying my everyday stuff.
I’ve been using my bag for a few weeks now, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it! People can’t believe I made it myself. It’s a great feeling to carry something I created with my own two hands. Plus, it’s a reminder that sometimes you can get the look you want without spending a fortune. I guess you could say this little project turned out to be a pretty good investment of my time and effort. I even think it looks a little better than the original, but maybe that’s just me!
