So, I finally pulled the trigger and got myself an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the sapphire crystal and the Caliber 3861 movement. Let me tell you, the whole process was quite the ride.
It all started a couple of years ago, actually, when OMEGA introduced this new stainless steel Speedmaster Professional model. I had my eyes on it and thought “Wow, that’s the one” I’ve always wanted. Initially, I resisted the temptation, telling myself I didn’t really need another watch. But, you know how it goes. There was also some buzz about the possibility of swapping the case back on the new 3861 Speedy Pro, which got me thinking about customization options. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the new 3861 was the way to go, an icon made fit for the future. It’s like the Porsche 911 of watches, you know? Classic but with all the modern upgrades.
I finally made up my mind and started looking for the best way to buy it. I considered various platforms, comparing prices and trying to find the best deal. It was a bit of a headache, to be honest. And also I found some discussion on the new FOiS which is a faithful reproduction of the CK2998, produced from 1959 to about 1962, some guys saying it’s Blue-grey “soleil”, this makes me hesitate even more.
Eventually, I decided to go straight to the source and get it from an authorized dealer. I figured that was the safest bet, even if it meant paying a bit more. Plus, I wanted the whole experience of buying a new OMEGA, you know? Walking into the boutique, trying it on, and walking out with the box and papers felt really special.
Once I had the watch on my wrist, I knew I’d made the right decision. It’s just such a beautiful and well-made timepiece. The sapphire crystal is crystal clear, and the movement is a joy to look at through the case back. I’ve been wearing it every day since, and I can’t help but smile every time I check the time.
