Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Patek Philippe watch for a while now. They’re just so classy, you know? I finally decided to go for it and try to remake a PP Gondolo 7042/100G-010. It’s a real beauty, all white gold and diamonds, the whole nine yards.
First off, I started looking into what makes this watch tick. I mean, it’s not just about slapping some metal and jewels together, right? I spent hours just browsing, checking out pictures, reading about the original, you name it. I needed to really get a feel for it.
Then came the hard part – getting the materials. I couldn’t exactly afford to use the same stuff as the real deal. So I had to be creative. I found some decent white gold alternatives, and as for the diamonds, well, let’s just say they sparkle, but they’re not exactly from a high-end jeweler, if you catch my drift.
- Gathering Materials: This was a challenge. I hunted for white gold imitations and shiny stones that looked like diamonds. It took a while, but I got what I needed.
- Putting It Together: This was the tricky bit. I used some tools I had, made some adjustments, and got the watch parts crafted and put together. It wasn’t perfect, but it started to resemble the Gondolo.
I spent weeks on this project, tinkering away in my spare time. There were definitely moments where I wanted to just give up. Putting together a watch, even a remake, is way harder than it looks! But I kept at it, because I really wanted to see if I could pull it off.
The Big Reveal
Finally, after all that work, I had something that kinda, sorta looked like the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100G-010. It’s not perfect, obviously. It’s not going to fool anyone who knows their watches. But for me, it’s a pretty cool accomplishment. I learned a lot through the process, and I have a unique watch that I made myself. It’s not about passing it off as the real thing. It’s about the journey and the satisfaction of creating something.
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. I am not rich enough to get the real one, so this is the best for me. For now, I’m just happy to have this little piece of ‘almost Patek Philippe’ on my wrist.
