Yesterday, I took on a little project – remaking the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726. This watch, man, it’s something else. I mean, it was only around for like eight years before they stopped making it in 2019. That’s a pretty short run if you ask me.
So, I started by gathering all the stuff I needed. I’m not using any fancy tools, just regular stuff you’d find around the house. First, I carefully took apart an old watch I had lying around. I needed to get a feel for how these things are put together, you know? It’s a bit fiddly, but I got the hang of it.
The Movement
- Took apart the old watch.
- Studied how the parts fit together.
- Tried to mimic the automatic movement of the 5726. It’s a tough one!
Next, I started working on the dial. I wanted that black and white look, just like the original. I found some materials around the house that I could use. I used a black marker. It was a lot of trial and error, let me tell you. I messed up a few times, but hey, that’s part of the process, right?
The Annual Calendar
This was the hardest part. The 5726 has this cool feature where it shows the day, date, and month, and you only have to adjust it once a year. I tried my best to recreate this, but it was way over my head. I ended up with something that kinda looks like it, but it doesn’t actually work. I just make them stay where they are by using glue.
Putting it all together was another challenge. I had to be super careful not to mess anything up. It took a while, but I finally got it assembled. It’s not perfect, not by a long shot, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s got that Nautilus vibe, you know? And it feels totally different from one of those Rolex watches. That’s what I wanted.
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure in watchmaking. It was a fun experiment, and I learned a lot. Maybe one day I’ll try to make a watch that actually works like the real deal. Until then, I’ll just enjoy my little homemade Nautilus 5726.
