Alright, so, I gotta tell you about this experience I had with the OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary edition. I’ve always been a fan of the Speedmaster, and when I heard about this one, I knew I had to get my hands on it.
First off, I started digging around for information. I found out that it wasn’t a limited edition, strictly speaking, but it was going to be super popular. The big draw seemed to be the caseback, which sounded really cool, and I also learned that it’s powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 and comes in a special box. That’s nice.
Then, I found out that it was limited to 5,441 pieces, referencing the length of the mission – 142 hours. And, it’s all about the award that OMEGA got from NASA back in 1970. Apparently, Snoopy has been NASA’s safety watchdog since the ’60s.
So, I managed to find a place that had it in stock. It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. This watch was released on October 5th, 2020. When I finally saw it in person, oh boy, it was even better than I imagined. The silver dial is just gorgeous, and the blue ceramic bezel with the tachymeter scale is a nice touch. It’s a 42mm steel case, which is a good size for me.
- The dial: Silver, with that adorable Snoopy in a spacesuit at the 9 o’clock subdial.
- The caseback: This is where it gets really interesting. You’ve got Snoopy in his Command and Service Module on a “magical hand.”
- The movement: The OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. Fancy, right?
I pulled the trigger and bought it. Putting it on my wrist for the first time was a great feeling. It’s comfortable, it looks amazing, and it’s got that cool history behind it. Using the chronograph is smooth, and seeing Snoopy “fly” around the moon on the caseback when I use the chronograph seconds hand is just awesome. I did some test with my friend.
I’ve been wearing it every day since I got it, and I’ve gotten so many compliments. The whole experience, from researching it to finally owning it, has been incredible. This watch is definitely a keeper, and I can see why it’s so sought-after.
Some Tips:
If you’re thinking about getting one, be prepared to do some hunting. They’re not super easy to find. Also, be ready to pay a premium, it’s not a cheap watch. But in my opinion, it’s totally worth it.
That’s my story about the OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary. Hope you enjoyed it!
