This here Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227R-001, they say it’s a classic, a real fancy piece. Well, I seen a lot of watches in my time, but this one, it’s somethin’ else. They call it a “remake,” like they took an old idea and shined it up new. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, I reckon. Old things can be good things. Like me!
This 5227R, it’s got that rose gold color. Looks kinda like that penny my grandson found in the dirt, all shiny and new. But this here’s real gold, they tell me. 18K, whatever that means. Must be mighty expensive. Costs more than my old cow Betsy, that’s for sure.
They say it’s got this “automatic self-winding movement.” Now, I don’t know much about these things, but I reckon it means it winds itself up. Kinda like that old rooster we had, always up and at ’em without no help from nobody. This one has a “caliber 324 movement.” Don’t ask me what that is! Sounds fancy, though. Like some kinda special recipe for makin’ watches. It got 29 jewels. Jewels in a watch! More jewels than I ever had in my whole life.
- It’s a classic style, that’s for sure.
- Shiny like a new penny.
- Got jewels in it, can you believe it?
- Winds itself up, like magic!
They say some of these Patek Philippe watches are good for keepin’. Like, you buy ’em, and they’re worth more later. Like plantin’ seeds and watchin’ ’em grow into a big ol’ tree. They got names for ’em, like “Nautilus” and “Aquanaut” and “Calatrava.” This 5227R is one of them Calatravas.
Now, I heard tell of a Nautilus 5711, that was a real big shot. Kinda like the head hog at the county fair. This new one they call a 5811, maybe it’s gonna be just as popular. Who knows?
They say these Calatrava watches, they been around a long time. Lots of different kinds. Some of ’em, the old ones, they’re worth a whole heap of money. Like that old quilt my mama made, worth more now than when it was new. They say a real old one, a “ref. 96,” if it ain’t in good shape, it’s still worth a lot. Like, 5,000 of them dollar bills! But if it’s been kept real nice, it could be worth three times that! Imagine that!
You gotta be careful though. If it is cheap, it ain’t gonna be good. Just like them cheap seeds you buy at the general store. Don’t grow nothin’ but weeds.
This watch, it’s got a pretty face, they call it a “dial.” This one’s “ivory.” Reminds me of that old piano my cousin used to have, with them ivory keys. It’s about 39 of them “millimeters” across. Don’t know what that is exactly, but it sounds like a good size. Not too big, not too small. Just right, like Goldilocks’ porridge.
This watch, it’s a fancy thing, no doubt about it. But it makes me think, sometimes the simplest things are the best. Like a good cup of coffee in the mornin’, or the sound of the birds singin’ in the trees. But hey, if you got the money, and you like fancy things, this Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227R-001, it might just be the watch for you. It’s a classic style for sure. They say it is a good investment, just like the Nautilus and Aquanaut. But I still think nothing beats that old pocket watch my grandpappy gave me. Still keeps good time, even after all these years.
They say this 5227R is “new” for 2024. So it’s the latest and greatest, I reckon. Comes in a fancy box, too. And with some papers. Like a deed to a piece of land. All official-like. The Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227R-001 is just a remake, but it is still a nice watch. If you like classic style, then maybe you like it. I just hope it is better than that Nautilus 5711.
- New for 2024, so they say.
- Comes in a fancy box.
- Got some official papers with it.
- It’s a remake of a classic.
I remember back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy watches. We just had the sun to tell the time. And you know what? It worked just fine. But I guess times change. People like their fancy things. And this Patek Philippe Calatrava, it sure is fancy. Maybe too fancy for me. But I can see why folks might like it. It’s a pretty thing, that’s for sure. And it’s got that name, Patek Philippe. That’s a name that means somethin’, I reckon. Like a good brand of flour, or a sturdy pair of boots. You know you’re gettin’ somethin’ good when you see that name.
