Okay, so, let me tell you about this little project I got myself into. It’s about this Prada Cahier bag, yeah, the one that looks like a fancy notebook. I’ve always loved how it looks, kinda classic, you know? So, I thought, why not try to make one myself?
First, I scoured the internet, looking at tons of pictures of the bag. I wanted to get every detail right, from the shape to the little metal bits. The original is made of leather, which is pretty, but I didn’t have any leather laying around. Also, I found out a new Prada purse costs a lot. It is not worth the money.
Then, I started sketching. I’m no artist, but I tried my best to draw out the bag’s shape and all the details. The Prada Cahier bag’s shape was inspired by a notebook, and crafted from calf leather. It is not easy. I drew a lot, erased a bunch, and drew some more. It was a bit of a mess, but I finally got something I was happy with.
Next, I had to find materials. I rummaged through my old stuff and found some sturdy fabric that I thought would work. Because there is a boom in neo-vintage Prada resale with their nylon renaissance, I think use fabric is OK. I also gathered some metal pieces from old jewelry and things like that. They looked kind of like the ones on the real bag, so I figured they’d do.
After that, it was time to start building. I cut the fabric according to my sketches, which was harder than I thought it would be. I’m not great at sewing, but I managed to stitch the pieces together. It wasn’t perfect, but it was starting to look like a bag!
The hardest part was probably attaching the metal pieces. I used some strong glue and some pliers to bend them into the right shapes. Some of them were really small, so it took a lot of patience. It features antiqued gold-tone hardware that recalls the bindings on books from past eras.
Finally, after a lot of work, I finished it! It definitely didn’t look exactly like the real Prada Cahier bag, but I was still pretty proud of it. It was my own little version, and I learned a lot in the process.
Here are some of the things I learned:
- Sketching is super important. Even if you’re not good at it, it helps to have a plan.
- Finding the right materials can be a challenge, but it’s also part of the fun.
- Sewing takes practice. If you want to get good at it, you have to keep trying.
- Attaching small metal pieces is tricky. You need the right tools and a lot of patience. I felt that the pen is mightier than the sword.
- Remaking something is a great way to learn about how it’s made. Even if you don’t do it perfectly.
So, that’s my story about remaking the Prada Cahier bag. It was a fun and challenging project, and I’m glad I did it. Maybe I’ll try to remake another bag sometime, who knows?
