Alright, so, I’ve been messing around with this watch, a copy of the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the open case back. Let me tell you, it’s been quite an experience, and not exactly what I expected.
First off, I started by looking for something that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg. I mean, I like nice things, but I’m not about to spend a fortune on a watch. I found this copy online, and it seemed like a good deal. Classic style, they said. Sounded good to me.
When it arrived, I opened the box and there it was. It looked pretty nice, I gotta admit. Not too flashy, just a solid-looking watch. I started wearing it around, you know, to work, to the store, just about everywhere.
Then I began to notice things. People kept talking about “chronographs” and “tachymeters.” I had no idea what those were. I just wanted a watch that told the time. So, I did some digging. Turns out, a chronograph is like a stopwatch, and a tachymeter helps you measure speed. Who knew?
I also learned that the real OMEGA Speedmaster is a big deal. It’s been to the moon and all that. This copy, well, it hasn’t been to the moon. But it still looked the part. I started to appreciate the design, the details, even though I didn’t need all the extra features.

My Takeaway
So, after all this, here’s what I think. This copy of the OMEGA Speedmaster, it’s a fine watch. It tells the time, it looks good, and it didn’t break the bank. But it’s not the real thing. And maybe that’s okay. It got me interested in watches, in their history and design. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll get a real one. Or maybe I won’t. Either way, I learned a lot from this little experiment. And that’s worth something, right?
And then there’s the whole open case back thing. I thought it was cool to see the insides of the watch, all those little gears moving around. Some folks online were saying that the “Speedy,” that’s what they call it, deserves an open case back. I agree. It’s like a little window into how the whole thing works.
But then I found out that Omega used to offer the hesalite crystal, which is like this special type of glass, with the exhibition case back, which is another name for the open case back. But they don’t anymore. A real bummer, in my opinion. I think I will keep it.
At the end of the day, this copy OMEGA Speedmaster, it’s been a conversation starter. It’s gotten me into more than a few chats about watches, about what’s real and what’s not, about why we like the things we like. And that’s been pretty cool, I gotta say. It’s more than just a watch now. It’s a story.
