Alright, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with the transparent case back for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s a beauty. I finally decided to pull the trigger and go check it out at one of the specialty stores.
First off, I did a little digging online. Found out that this bad boy has been around since 1957. And apparently, it was worn by astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission. How cool is that? It’s got that whole “moonwatch” vibe going on, which is definitely part of the appeal. The price was about 7,000 USD, I saw it online.
I walked into the OMEGA store, and man, it was like stepping into a watch geek’s paradise. They had all these different models, but my eyes were locked on the Speedmaster. I saw that the case size is 42mm, and the crystal is made of something called Hesalite. Felt sturdy and looked sharp.
I asked the guy at the counter if I could try it on. He carefully took it out of the display case, and I strapped it on my wrist. The size is great. The weight felt substantial, but not too heavy. And that transparent case back… oh man, you can see all the little gears and moving parts inside. It’s mesmerizing, honestly.

After spending a good 30 minutes admiring it, I had to make a decision. It was a tough one, I won’t lie. I ended up leaving the store without it, but only because I needed a little more time to think it over, and maybe save up a bit more. But let me tell you, that Speedmaster is definitely on my wish list, maybe next month, I will get it home.
Final Thoughts
Going to the OMEGA store was a great experience. Seeing the Speedmaster Moonwatch in person was even better than I imagined. It’s a classic for a reason, and that transparent case back is just the icing on the cake. Now I just need to figure out how to justify that $7,000 price tag…
