Okay, so, I’ve been wanting a Rolex GMT-Master II Batman for a while now. You know, the one with the black and blue bezel? It’s a real beauty, but man, those prices are insane! I mean, who has $15,000 just lying around? Not me, that’s for sure.
So, I started looking into alternatives. I mean, there had to be something out there that looked similar but didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I remembered once reading something about Timex watches. They always seemed to be okay, and the price, from what I remember, was not too bad, So I went down to a Timex store and started browsing.
And then, I stumbled upon this thing called the “Timex Allied Three GMT.” The design looked kind of familiar. I mean, it’s not a Rolex, but it does have a similar vibe, especially with the rotating bezel, but I think the colors are a bit different. It was still pretty cool, though. But they didn’t have the one I was looking for.
I went home and looked on my computer some more. I was seeing these “Ocean 39 Vintage GMT Premium Ceramic” watches. The specs said it had a “Swiss automatic” movement and a 39mm case. I don’t know what any of that means, but it looked pretty decent in the pictures.
Then, I started checking out pre-owned Rolexes. I found a few listings for around $15,000. Still way out of my budget, but I was curious. I saw one that was a “GMT Master II 116710, 40mm, Batman Ceramic Bezel, Steel.” It looked to be in pretty good condition, but I did not check it out any further.
I found another listing, a used one, and it was still listed at $15,000. I mean, come on! I guess they hold their value or something. The watch looked pretty cool, black dial, steel case, 40mm, and that same Batman bezel I was looking for, but I couldn’t justify that price.
I even saw something about bidding on a 2021 Rolex GMT-Master II Batman at some “Bezel Auctions.” Apparently, they do their own authentication and don’t charge a buyer’s premium. No idea what that is, but I was not gonna bid on some expensive watch.
My Choice
-
Brand: Timex
-
Model: Allied Three GMT
-
Reason: I went back to the Timex store and found a Timex Allied Three GMT watch that I really liked. It wasn’t a Rolex, but the price was so much better. Plus, it looked pretty good on my wrist, so I went for it. No regrets yet!
So, yeah, that’s my little watch adventure. I ended up with a Timex, and you know what? I’m pretty happy with it. It’s a good-looking watch, and I didn’t have to sell my car to get it. Maybe one day I’ll get a real Rolex, but for now, this Timex is doing just fine.
