This here Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001, that’s a fancy name for a watch, ain’t it? They say it’s for them special stores, you know, the kind us folks don’t usually go to. But I seen pictures, and it sure is somethin’. All shiny and black, like a beetle’s back after a good rain. My old man, bless his soul, he had a pocket watch, but nothin’ like this here Patek Philippe.
This Remake Patek Philippe PP Calatrava 5088/100P-001, It’s like they took somethin’ old and made it new again. This one, it’s all fancy with that black face. They call it a dial, fancy word for the face of the watch. They made it all detailed, like them fancy quilts my sister used to make, with all sorts of patterns on it. They say it’s hand-engraved. Must take a steady hand and a whole lot of patience to do that.
Now, this watch, it ain’t just pretty. It’s got all them inner workings, they call it the movement. This one’s a Calibre 240, whatever that means. Sounds like some kinda engine. They say it’s automatic, so you don’t gotta wind it up like them old clocks. It just keeps tickin’ as long as you wear it. And it can go for 48 hours, they say, without you doin’ nothin’. That’s like two whole days! My old clock, you’d be lucky to get a day out of it before it stopped.
They say this watch is made of platinum. That’s some kinda precious metal. More expensive than gold, I reckon. And it’s thin, real thin. Not like them bulky watches some folks wear. This one’s just 38 mm, that’s what they said. Don’t know what a millimeter is, but it sounds small. They say the case, that’s the outside part, is 8.3 mm thick. Again with the millimeters! But I guess that’s pretty thin for a watch.
And get this, they say it’s got a sapphire crystal. Now I know what a crystal is, but sapphire? Must be some kinda fancy rock. They say it’s scratch-resistant. That’s good, ’cause I’m always scratchin’ things up. My old man, he’d be scratchin’ his head at all this. He just wanted a watch that told the time.
They put a number on this watch, a serial number. They say it’s real important, like a birth certificate for the watch. Tells you everything about it. When it was made, where it came from. Gotta have that number if you want to know if it’s the real deal. Lots of fake stuff out there, you know. Gotta be careful.
This Patek Philippe, It is expensive. They say it costs more than a car! More than my whole house, probably. Who woulda thought a little watch could cost so much? But I guess some folks, they like that kinda thing. They like to show off their money.

I heard they only sell these Patek Philippe watches in special stores. Authorized retailers, they call ’em. Gotta be careful where you buy it, I guess. Don’t want no fakes. You gotta go to the right place. They got a list of them places on their website, patek dot com. Can’t say I ever been to any of them places.
This Patek Philippe, it’s a special watch, that’s for sure. Too fancy for me. But I can see why some folks like it. It’s like a piece of art, almost. Somethin’ to pass down to your kids, maybe. If you got that kinda money, that is. Me, I’m happy with my old clock. It tells the time just fine. And it don’t cost more than my house.
But if you want to buy this Patek Philippe watch, you better have a lot of money. It costs a lot. They say it’s over $100,000! Can you believe that? For a watch! And if you buy it from one of them used watch places, it’s still gonna cost a lot, maybe $85,000. Still a lot of money. They say it’s a current production model. That means they are still making them. So if you got the money, you can go out and buy one. Just make sure you go to the right store.
They say there are lots of these Patek Philippe 5088/100P-001 watches out there. At least 22 of them, according to some website called Chrono24. Don’t know what that is, but it sounds fancy. They say you can find low prices there, but I don’t know about that. A watch that costs that much, I don’t think there’s such a thing as a low price.
This Patek Philippe 5088, it is sure somethin’. But maybe a little too somethin’ for the likes of me. Now, where’d I put my spectacles? I need to see what time it is on my old clock.
