Man, I gotta tell you about this watch I’ve been messing around with – the OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary. It’s a mouthful, I know, but trust me, it’s worth talking about.

First off, I started digging into the history of this thing. Apparently, it’s to celebrate 50 years since NASA gave OMEGA some “Silver Snoopy Award” back in 1970. They were all about OMEGA’s help with the Apollo 13 mission and other space stuff. So, this watch is kinda like a big “thank you” from NASA to OMEGA, which I thought was pretty cool.

So, after learning all that, I got my hands on one of these bad boys. It’s not a limited edition, but everyone and their grandma seems to want one. The price I saw online was around $18,250, which, you know, isn’t pocket change, but it is a pretty decent price for this watch. Anyway, the first thing I noticed was the silver dial. It’s got these blue accents on the smaller dials, the bezel, and the strap, and it all comes together real nice. I mean, it looks sharp.

  • Looked at the dial and strap, really digging the blue accents.
  • Flipped it over, and whoa, there’s a whole scene on the back!
  • Realized this animation is tied to the chronograph function, which is super cool.

But the real kicker is on the back of the watch. I flipped it over, and there’s this whole animated scene. You’ve got the moon, the Earth, and even a little Snoopy in a spaceship. It’s not just for show, either. When you start the chronograph, Snoopy goes for a ride around the moon. I spent a good chunk of time just playing with that, not gonna lie. It’s such a neat detail.

I also read somewhere that earlier versions of this Snoopy watch were limited editions. One had 5441 pieces, which is the number of hours the Apollo 13 mission lasted. I guess they decided to do something different for the 50th anniversary, which I think is a good move. Makes it feel a bit more special, you know?

Wrapping Up

All in all, I’m really impressed with this OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch. It’s got a great story behind it, it looks fantastic, and that animated caseback is just the cherry on top. If you’re into watches, especially ones with a bit of history, I’d definitely recommend checking this one out. It’s a conversation starter, for sure.
